Quantity Surveyor Staffing for Data Centre Projects
What a Quantity Surveyor does
A Quantity Surveyor on a Data Centre build owns the commercial detail of one or more packages: measurement, subcontractor procurement support, monthly valuations, payment applications and certificates, variation pricing and the cost value reconciliation that feeds the project's cost report. On MEP-heavy schemes the value sits in switchgear, UPS, generators, chillers and containment, so accurate measurement and change control matter more than the shell.
Day to day the QS works between the site team and the supply chain: agreeing measured work, assessing subcontractor applications, defending or challenging variations, and making sure notices and records are in place before a claim ever becomes contentious.
The strongest Data Centre QSs are comfortable with fast-moving change under NEC or JCT, understand long-lead equipment commitments, and can explain a movement in the cost report to a project director without hiding behind the spreadsheet.

£45–65K base (permanent) or £280–400 / day on contract

What experience should a Data Centre Quantity Surveyor have?
Usually three to six years post-graduate commercial experience with meaningful MEP package exposure. Clients look for evidence of running valuations and variations on packages of real value, and familiarity with NEC or JCT rather than a specific degree route.
Do you place Quantity Surveyors on contract or permanent terms?
Both. Contract QSs are common during peak delivery on individual halls or packages, while permanent QS hires sit with main contractors, MEP subcontractors and owners building long-term commercial teams.
