Estimator Staffing for Data Centre Bids

A Data Centre bid is won or lost in pre-construction. We recruit Estimators who price Mission Critical MEP scope with the supply chain, not from a rate library.

What a Estimator does

An Estimator owns the pricing of a bid: taking off scope, building the estimate, chasing and levelling supply chain quotations, and presenting the number and its assumptions at settlement.

On Data Centre bids the electrical and mechanical packages dominate the value, lead times drive risk, and the commissioning scope has to be priced properly rather than carried as an allowance.

Strong Estimators work closely with pre-construction managers, planners and the commercial team so the price, the programme and the risk register tell the same story.

Typical range

£55–80K base (permanent) or £350–475 / day on contract

Core responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and quantified take-offs for bids
  • Obtain, level and analyse supply chain quotations
  • Price preliminaries, risk, commissioning scope and inflation
  • Present the estimate and assumptions at settlement meetings
  • Hand over the winning estimate to the delivery commercial team

Why hire through Cx Recruit

We verify estimators on the bids they personally priced, the value and the outcome, rather than on a list of projects their employer won.

We understand who has real Mission Critical MEP pricing exposure across the UK, Ireland and US markets.

FAQs

Do Data Centre estimators need MEP experience?

Yes, in practice. The majority of the value sits in electrical and mechanical plant, so estimators without MEP pricing exposure struggle to build a credible number.

Is estimating a contract or permanent role?

Mostly permanent, since it sits in pre-construction teams, though contract estimators are used to cover bid peaks.

What software do estimators use?

Conquest, CostX, Bluebeam and Excel are the most common, alongside supply chain portals for quotation management.
